"Positive Messages"

Many times women hear negative information about birth from families or friends. We would like to provide a place for women to hear positive stories surrounding birth so we are offering a place for Lafayette- area mothers to give encouragement to local pregnant women. Would you like to share something about your birth? Perhaps you had the "picture perfect birth" that you dreamed about. Perhaps things did not go as you had planned; you had a long or difficult labor or a complication but in going through birth you discovered strength that you never knew you had, you developed a renewed relationship with your partner, or some other empowering outcome. You might express yourself in a birth story, a poem, a letter to your baby, … be creative! We can accept pictures if they are 100 Kb or smaller.

    Here are a few guidelines.

    • While we encourage honesty about difficulties you faced, make the over-all tone of your writing something positive. Our goal is to strengthen women who will be birthing. As this is a public site, you may want to ask friends before mentioning their name.
    • At this point please do not use the names of practitioners. Please just say "my doctor" "my doula" "my nurse – or the first nurse, second nurse…"). While we encourage you to recommend doctors, midwives, and doulas ;-) to your friends, the focus of this site is to convey messages about birth rather than specific practitioners.
    • We are looking for births that have occurred in the Lafayette area. Lafayette area families who traveled to the birth center in Indianapolis or Frankfort are welcome to submit their story as are women who had home births in the Lafayette area.
    • Remember this site is public. For security reasons you may want to use first names only.
    • If you have had several births, you are welcome to submit a story about each one.
    • Moms are not the only ones who can submit! Dads are welcome, as are siblings!

Stories submitted will be read at the next monthly meeting of LADIES (Lafayette Area Doulas Information and Educational Services). Selections that conform to the above guidelines will be placed on the web site. Selections that do not meet the criteria will be returned to the sender with an explanation of the difficulty, the sender may modify it to correct the problem if she/he wishes.

Take a moment to check out the web site! Let us know what you think!

If you would like to submit something to our "Positive Messages" site, we would love to hear from you! Just visit our Doulas page and select a Doula to send your story to.
