The Day
It was a Sunday morning And I was on the couch After a night of moaning And suddenly there was doush!
Quick, call my midwife! Off the carpet first and to the bath Looks like we’ll have a new life If you do the math
I had to call my friends and boss Sorry, I must be off Please buy me some spaghetti sauce Oh… this is starting to be tough
Wait! The crib has not arrived My parents are on their way Let them know it’s almost time Yes, we’ll be there right away
Now everything in the car Daddy, drive if you can An hour really is not too far Honey, hold my hand
I ran inside, forget the gown Yes, your baby is on its way But I’m afraid she might be upside down Sit right here. You’ll be okay
Another hour and into the tub This was what I was waiting for So much better than any old back rub I couldn’t have asked for anything more
Just a little longer and I was eight Let’s take a break Don’t forget to urinate Now you can return to your lake
Time to push I know it’s hard Oh my – it is her tush! Call the doctor, she’s only in the backyard
She’s half-way out Hang in there, you’re doing fine Now’s not the time to doubt Oh my gosh, is she really mine?
Eyes wide open and alert Your daddy can only cry Don’t worry, he’s not hurt Just a sensitive guy
Little girl stay with your mommy You’ll be nice and warm Right here on her tummy It really is the norm
Now you can eat to your heart’s delight Grandma, come on in now Isn’t she a sight? What can you say but wow!
We’ll get up when you’re done Mom needs some more food and drink Grandma will have a lot of fun Giving you a bath in the sink
Let’s go home to our bed Everyone is doing well Your baby is fed And as pretty as a bell
